The Whole Family Counseling Model

A village approach to healing

I've been sitting with how to move my work in decolonizing education into decolonizing mental health practice. I wanted a model that brings community into the healing itself; not just individual and family processing, but real space for the village around each family too.

I want every family member to feel heard and seen, without carrying the burden of holding it all together. That means supporting both the mental load and the logistics, while still leaving room for the deeper, soul-level processing each person needs met in a way that fits who they actually are, not a one-size-fits-all approach.

I also want them to be able to process with each other, with a counselor who knows each of their narratives, so conflict can move through the family in a healthier way.

And I want to collaborate with the community members already in a family's orbit—schools, providers, chosen family—so support feels comprehensive and streamlined, not scattered across people who don't talk to each other.

This is what my Whole Family Counseling Model is built to do.

FROM DECOLONIZING EDUCATION TO DECOLONIZING MENTAL HEALTH FOR FAMILIES

I've spent over a decade in schools as a counselor, then in district leadership, sitting with kids, families, and educators through some of their hardest and most human moments, and building partnerships across a student's village of support. Now I'm bringing that experience into private practice.

MY UNIQUE EXPERIENCE IN MENTAL HEALTH

Here's what makes this different: instead of every family member seeing a separate provider who only knows their piece of the story, you get one counselor who understands the whole picture—how each of you moves through the world, and how you function together as a family.

That means:

  • Individual and family sessions, so nuance never gets lost in translation

  • Support for the mental load, not just the mental health—we build the systems and routines together

  • Coordination across your family's mental health, school experience, and (with our optional NP add-on) medical care

  • A partner in between sessions when you need it, not just during the 45 minutes
